Why the first frame matters

Begin with a visual question

The first frame sets an expectation. Before adding a line of text, ask what the image makes a viewer curious about: a texture, a gesture, or a product seen in an unfamiliar way. Start with one clear idea.

Give the detail room

A close-up can carry a story when light, movement, and framing work together. Give the audience enough time to understand what they are seeing. More cuts do not automatically create more interest.

Review the opening on its own

Watch the opening without the rest of the edit. Check whether the subject is clear, the text can be read, and the sequence follows through on the promise. Treat each opening as a creative hypothesis, then use appropriate reporting to learn from it.
